Hollywood Walking Tour - Mulholland Drive

Hollywood/Highland - Hollywood/Highland 2 - Hollywood/Vine - North on Vine - Mulholland Drive

Hop in the car and take Highland south from Franklin to Hollywood Blvd. Turn right on Hollywood and continue west until it turns into Laurel Canyon Blvd. As you drive west on Hollywood the "glitz" begins to disappear and you are traveling on a residential street, much like you would find in any So. Cal. city. Make you way onto Laural Canyon Blvd. and you begin a steep climb into the hills of north Hollywood. This is where many of today's stars live. Off to your right you pass the Laurel Canyon Country Store. Stop in and you may find yourself behind Madonna in the checkout line buying a loaf or bread.
Keep climbing and climbing and soon you arrive at the intersection of Laurel Canyon and Mulholland Drive. Turn right and you travel along a ridge with very, very steep cliffs on each side of the road. Go slow since there are a bunch of hairpin corners to negotiate. All along this road you see houses built into the hills, many of them owned by Hollywood celebrities or other movie industry folks.

The picture on the right shows the view toward North Hollywood (NOHO) and Burbank. The building in the picture is the NBC Universal Tower. This area is where many of the television shows we love so much are taped. ABC, Disney, CBS, and Fox and all have a presence here.

The picture to the left is a great shot of the Hollywood Bowl in the foreground, Downtown LA in the background, and the Hollywood Freeway (101) as a ribbon between them.

This picture was taken at a pullover spot not far from the intersection of 101 and Mulholland. Probably very close to where Rita (aka. Camilla Rhodes) tumbles down the hill in the movie Mulholland Drive after the head on collision on this road. You need to see this movie before you make this drive.
Ok, so get back in the car, take Mulholland to the 101 Hollywood Freeway. Head south to the Sunset Blvd exit. Here's another one where you need to see the movie Sunset Boulevard with William Holden and Gloria Swanson to fully appreciate this Hollywood "classic Strip". Take Sunset west and take in the sights as you make your way to La Brea Avenue. Turn left on La Brea and soon you will find yourself at Pink's Hot Dogs.

Back to the Mulholland Drive movie, Pink's is where Betty hires a hit man to kill Rita (or is it Camilla?). We decided to try the Mulholland Drive dogs along with some Orange Crush. They were very tasty.
